The semester has ended and the holidays have begun! I decided to try something different today before I delve into all that baking and posting more food recipes. Excited?
Inspired by the many shopping haul vlogs I’ve been seeing on YouTube, I’m going to start sharing my purchases too. Yay! The whole idea is somewhat like the “what’s in my bag” trend that started a few years back, except this is probably a “what’s in my SHOPPING bag” version 🙂
I don’t have a video channel as yet, and besides I’m plagued with stage fright so being in front of a video camera with an imaginary audience pretty much freaks me out all the same, so I’ll be sticking with just writing for now.

Touted as (probably) the best ramen in Singapore, this ramenya sure has a lot to live up to.
Ramen is something quite exquisite. While distinctively similar to instant noodles or bak chor mee of the Chinese, what truly sets it apart is the skill in the preparation of the broth, and the texture of the noodles which are often handmade.
Maybe there’s just something about doing things the Japanese way that reigns supreme. Their attention to detail could almost be termed unmatched.
Over at Ramen Santouka, the chefs spend hours on the broth to get it at just the right temperature, and flavour. So rich is the stock that I would have to say that hands down, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had.
If there’s one thing I like about Singapore it’s got to be the food. Cliché but true, and I would even go so far as to say if you’re not passionate about food found locally, you’re truly missing out.
It’s common knowledge that there isn’t much to do around here, and food hunts are one of those past times that really get me all excited.
Amidst the busy preparations for my birthday, we managed to squeeze in time for some good food. Today’s review is about another ramen place. K has a weakness for Japanese food and really — don’t we all?
Okay so you’re not Singaporean until the mere thought of food gives you an adrenaline rush…
For someone who has never been to Thailand, visiting the Thai enclave at Golden Mile Complex Singapore was quite an experience. And no better than to have two of my good buddies with me for my first time.
I don’t get serious cravings for Thai food, and my favourites hardly go beyond Phat Thai and Khao Niaow Ma Muang (mango sticky rice), but my friends happen to be big fans. And trusting their taste — plus the fact that they frequent BKK — we headed to the New Udon Thai Food eatery to satisfy our tummies with Moo Kata.
Moo Kata, which literally means “pork skillet”, is a traditional form of Thai communal eating. A large part of the Thai dining etiquette involves eating in large groups, something which we definitely learned to appreciate that night!
When it comes to Japanese food, I’m not one to go big on buffets.
Being a Singaporean, for obvious reasons, buffets are meant to be really worth it — yet not so much for me, as my tummy has the unfortunate chronic inability to stomach more than say, eight plates of sushi. It’s just sad.
Despite passing up on buffets in general, I do make special exceptions. At the Himawari Japanese Restaurant is probably one of the rare places you’d actually find me shoving food down my throat in a less-than-fashionable manner (simply because the food is too good I could do with taking in two portions at once with no care for civility).
“Too good to be true” would be a sore understatement.
It was a quiet Sunday when I, together with an old friend of mine, decided to catch up over a little coffee (and tea, and cake).
It’s been four years, but as we’ve found, some things never change. The choice of place (he recommended) was perfect too — absolutely fitting for the kind of nostalgia we needed.
This is definitely one place I’d consider a “hidden find”, and literally as well. For those unfamiliar with the north-east area, I would say locating the café might be a challenge. Then again, if you’re fond of Serangoon Gardens (cue: Chomp Chomp and the like), this little den is just on the way in.
Don’t let its location stop you from paying a visit though, because I’m quite sure you’re gonna like what you find here 😉
Count your blessings because I’m about to reveal one of Serangoon’s probably best-kept secrets…

One will be easily spoiled for choice at The Line. Serving up a wide array of international cuisines, The Line could not better represent the diverse flavours you can find in little cosmopolitan Singapore — and all made with choice ingredients.
I had the pleasure of partaking in the buffet feast last Saturday, as part of a committee treat for some Hall committee I was involved in the past year. And, I must say that food is an excellent way to express appreciation (aha! the glutton in me speaks again).
Tried as I may, I was struggling to have a taste of everything available. But, alas, it was impossible. In the end, in the battle of (wo)man vs. food, food won this time!
